RotF Spanish Week kicks off with a big, bad fighting
ship. That's not unusual for Spain. What's unusual
is that the San Cristobal isn't just a fighter.
She's no slouch in combat, make no mistake. With a
Captain crew (which she'd surely get anyway), she
screams across the waves at L+S+S speed.
Her cannons are okay, if not world-class. A natural
crew for her would be Luis Zuan (the MI version, not
the newest one), who gives Captain and world-hater
talents, and turns this ship into a real powerhouse.
Or you could use her linked crew (who isn't even
from this release, which is very strange) to get the
Captain and an S-board, which is great with five
masts.
But with all that speed and 5 cargo spaces, the San
Cristobal can also bring quite a bit of gold home in
a hurry. She's far too expensive for just gold, but
if the enemy doesn't want to fight, or if you've
eliminated his fighters and the game has become a
race for gold, this big ship can pitch in and help
with the pieces of eight.
17 points is a fair price for what you get in this
ship. She gets above-average marks in all
categories, which is something you rarely see in a
big ship. Her colors are a nice break from the usual
Spanish brown-hull/white-sails/red-crosses scheme as
well.
Ability: If this ship has a crew
with the Captain keyword, she gets +L to her
base move.
Flavor Text: Spain has tied its fortunes to
Victor de Alva and this ship, named after
the patron saint of travelers, St.
Christopher.
Spanish fans, you aren't aloud to talk any
more about getting "shafted" in previous
sets. This is the first 5-masted ship to be
able to move a S+S+S+L, and also one of the
first in the game. After seeing this ship,
you guys can't complain about anything any
more.
What's
not to love about a ship that's got
everything? All you gotta do is toss Luis
Zuan and a helmsman on here and she's 22
points, has a move-shoot, five rank-2
cannons, and a S+S+S+L move. This is the
most destructive ship by far that i've seen
in the last 4 or 5 releases. I can't even
believe Wizkids would make something so
unbalanced (actually, yeah, I can, but this
is pushing it even for Wizkids).
How
can I give this ship anything lower than
perfect marks? In my opinion, this ship goes
up against the HMS Titan for best warship on
the sea. Sure, it's cannons are worse. But,
it can move a full S+S faster than the
Titan. There's nothing wrong with this ship
-- NOT ONE THING -- so, I'm forced to give
the best rating possible.

Wow. Just wow. For 21 points (this includes the RotF
Luis Zuan and a
Helmsman) this ship can move and shoot, and has a
speed of S+S+S+L!
This is the fastest 5 mast gunship in the game! For
an extra 4 points, add in the worldhater LE BC
Almirante Devante del Nero, to make its guns all
rank 2! This is a disgustingly fast ship. It can tow
at a speed of S+S+L, even when derelict it can move
at S+S+L. This is as fast as the HMS Swallow with a
helmsman! In fact, I made a really disgusting build
for the Cristobal:
San Cristobal, 17 (33)
Horacio Linares, 2
Warlord Cavendish, 5
Captain Blackheart, 5
Helmsman, 2
Oarsman x2, 2
This one can move S+S+S+L+ S+S+S+L+S+S+S+L!!
If you couldn't tell already, I love this ship. Not
only because it's Spanish, but because of its
awesome potential.
This ship gets a 5/5 from me. It would have been
even better with a couple rank 2 guns, but then we'd
be seeing people call it broken.
Which would have been nice. But still.
A 5/5. If you play Spanish, what are you waiting
for?! Get this ship!
