Ahhh, treasure! That's what Spanish players like the
best. The Concepcion is built around the idea of
making its owner rich. At least, that's the theory.
Spain already has two ships with the gold+2 ability,
the well-designed El Alquimista and the fabulous La
Santa Isabel. This ship is much slower than either
of them, has worse cannons, carries less cargo than
the Isabel and costs more than the Alquimista, so if
you already have one of those two ships, it's hard
to recommend this one. But the Concepcion can do one
thing better than the Alquimista - she can steal
gold by boarding, if you speed her up with a
Helmsman. I can see this ship picking on small enemy
gold ships, then filling her empty cargo holds from
a wild island on the way home. She isn't the most
cost-effective way to do this, but you could do
worse, and her ability is a great one for any gold
ship. She looks good, too.
The Concepcion would be a much better ship if she
were a bit faster, or a bit cheaper. Because she's
neither, her scores are kind of average.
But like I said, you could do worse. Give her a try
some time.

Flavor Text: Rumors persist that the Concepcion
never leaves a port without her hold brimming with
gold, making her a marked ship by those who value
Spanish wealth.
I think we already reviewed this ship, but I missed
the boat (pun
intended) the first time, so I figure that I'll do
it now.
The new set, RotF, was a gold mine to the Spanish,
and to its fans.
This ship wasn't really one of the good ones, but
it's not bad.
A huge problem with this ship is that, well, the
Spanish have access to La Santa Isabel. It is one
point more, but has better speed, cargo, and
cannons. So, why use this ship? Well, you probably
don't have La Santa Isabel. It's a good ship with a
helmsman, sure, but just fork over the extra point
for the Isabel. At least this ship looks cool,
though. It's also nice to see that we aren't having
flavor text that says, "The Concepcion is one of
Spain's last vestiges of glory, as Spain is
declining and its New World power wanes." I hated
that flavor text. It's nice to see the Spanish
weren't shafted in the flavor text region.
This ship gets a 2.5/5. It wouldn't be so bad if
there weren't a much better ship for the job.
