Saratoga, 11 points, American
Masts: 3
Cargo: 2
Speed: S
Cannons: 3L 3L 3L
Abilities: If this ship has a crew with the Captain
keyword, she gets
+L to her base move.
Flavor Text: The Saratoga has a history of being a
slacker ship, but under the command of a strong
captain she has proved herself a quick and motivated
vessel.
Well, this is the THIRD American ship with the name
Saratoga. Why? I don't know. If Cadet-Captain Mike
isn't reviewing today, though, I'll have to take up
the mantle of complaining about the Americans
getting shafted. Their two crew had the exact same
ability, and pretty much all of their ships stunk.
Well, their flotilla was kind of cool. But really.
They got crud.
Onto the ship. Despite this being "Slowest of the
Slow" week, the Saratoga can be pretty speedy. With
a captain and a helmsman, it can move at S+L+S.
Which is not bad, although you are paying 16 points
for the combo. Why not just have the Franklin with a
captain? Oh yeah-because its range would only be
S+S+S, while this ship would have a range of S+L+S+L,
which is infinitely better. Of course, you need to
watch out for ships that can't be hit by L range
cannons. Then you're dead. I could see the Saratoga
being a suicide ship.
The other ironic thing about the Saratoga is that
it's one of the fastest ships in the American navy.
Odd? Yes. Then again, most American ships are kind
of slow.
The Saratoga gets a 3/5 from me. It's a little
overpriced, but not bad.
