I don't collect the Spanish, but if the mood to play
Spain hits me, I keep a small handful of my favorite
Spanish ships handy. This is one of them.
Her cannons are a solid set-up that can land hits on
any target. Speed is fair; cargo is unusually good.
Her ability is what sets her apart.
With the usual Captain and Helmsman on board, she
could take two S+L moves a turn and fire eight
cannons, roughly one turn in three. If that's not
good enough (and it isn't for me), then either add
Duque Marcus Vaccaro, or replace the Captain with
Alm. Carlos Pavon y Miranda, to get a reroll on that
second-action roll. Now you'll be double-hitting
about every other turn. Ole'!
For fun, compare her to the much-loved La Resolucion,
another four-master with a slightly lower price tag.
Reso's cannons are much more accurate, but she can
fire them only once a turn. Speed is comparable; the
Santa Ana has two more cargo spaces. There isn't
much to choose between them; it comes down to your
preferred playing style.
The Santa Ana's only real drawback is her price tag.
There are several 5-masted Spanish ships you can buy
for 15 points or less. But none of them come with
that second action. Me gusta este nave (I like this
ship).

Flavor Text: Almirante del Gato has made the Santa
Ana his personal ship. The precision of his command
and the force of his personality make her a
formidable opponent.
Santa Ana has a luxurious capacity that isn't meant
for gold. You're going to need to put a captain and
a helmsman on her without a doubt, plus any other
Spanish crew with fighting use. Santa Ana's move is
average, so as stated earlier, a helmsman is a
downright necessity. Her cannons can deal some good
damage if not well prepared, and her ability enables
her to do whatever she wants after she's already
used her normal turn. With satisfactory cannons,
substantial cargo, and a superb ability, Santa Ana
is a rough and tumble Spanish fighter that is a
dangerous addition to any fleet.
