Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Cazador del Pirata (Spain)
Card: SM #SS-008 (Uncommon)
Points: 11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 6
Moves: L
Guns : 3L, 3L, 3L
Hit %: 150 (S), 150 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls
against Pirate ships.
The "Pirate Hunter" is well-armed against Pirates,
with three L-range cannons that are 2-rank against
her natural enemy. Or is she? There are at least
five Pirate ships that can't be hit by L cannons,
and three of them came out in the same release as
this ship. Pirates like the Snipe and Batavian Bat
can thumb their noses at this ship and go their
merry way. Against other Pirates, she's a threat,
but against other factions, she doesn't bring much
to the party.
As another option, you could put a Helmsman on the
Cazador and use her for gold. Her cargo holds are
huge; she can easily clean out several wild islands
in one cruise.
Whether you fight her or chase doubloons with her,
the main problem is her point cost. For the same
price, you could get a fighter like El Monte Cristo,
with three 2-rank cannons (two of them L-range) that
get
+1 against Pirates, and anything else that isn't
Spanish. For gold, 11
points will buy El Alquimista, with higher speed and
a +2 on one coin per turn. If you've got her, she
may do good things for you, but if you're looking
through your older ships for another La Resolucion,
keep looking.
