Name: San Cristobal (Spain)
Card: RF #202 (Limited Edition)
Points: 15
Masts: 5
Cargo: 5
Moves: S+S
Guns : 3S,3L,3L,3L,3S
Hit %: 250 (S), 150 (L)
Link : Victor de Alva
Ability: Once per turn before you
give this ship an action, roll a d6.
On a 5 or 6, this ship can be
given the same action twice.
This striking yellow, maroon and
black five-master joins the ranks of fine Spanish
gunships. She is identical to the normal-edition
ship of the same name, except for her ability (not
quite as good) and point cost (not quite as high).
She isn't as consistently effective as the
super-speed version, but the occasional SAT can make
her just as deadly.
Her cannons are adequate; it's the
possibility of firing them more than once per turn
that elevates them into the "very nasty" category.
Give her a reroll crew like Duque
Marcus Vaccaro, in addition to her linked crew; this
combo could give her THREE actions in a turn pretty
frequently. Ouch. Almirante Devante del Nero, the
Spanish world-hater, would be another worthwhile
addition to her crew. This ship would make a fine
flagship for any Spanish fleet.
Goldship rating: 3.4 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 4.7 / 5
Boarding rating: 3.9 / 5
Value for points: 2.7 / 5

San Cristobal
It seems there were two San Cristobals in Rise of
the Fiends; a standard Rare one and a Limited
Edition one. How does the LE stand up to the Rare?
The two versions are identical except for two
things: cost and ability. The LE version costs two
points less, but what is the real cost?
The LE San Cristobal loses that nifty "If this ship
has a crew with the Captain keyword, she gets +L to
her base move" ability and gets a Same Action Twice
ability, which is great if you get get a 5 or a 6
easily and have plenty of nearby targets to shoot.
Otherwise, it's a poor trade in my opinion.
Other than that, you still get S+S speed, five cargo
spaces, two 3S and three 3L guns, and a link to
Victor de Alva. The link, as mentioned by
Cadet-Captain Mike in his review of the Rare
version, is odd since there is no Victor de Alva in
the Rise of the Fiends set. There was one released
in Fire and Steel however.
It's still a great ship even if it's not as good as
its Rare counterpart. I don't know how'd you'd even
get it, but whatever.
I give the San Cristobal Limited Edition a 3/5. |

San Cristobal, 15 points, Spain
Masts: 5
Cargo: 5
Speed: S+S
Cannons: 3S 3L 3L 3L 3S
Abilities: Once per turn before
you give this ship an action, roll a d6. On a 5 or
6, this ship can be given the same action twice.
Flavor Text: The flagship for the
Spanish fleet, the San Cristobal has maintained the
dignity of her captain, De Alva; the power of the
Spanish Crown; and the righteousness of her patron,
St. Christopher.
This is one of the hardest ships
to get in the game. So far, I've only seen a single
copy of them. Yes, these are the mythical Rise of
the Fiends LE's. Statswise and having the same look
as its non-LE brethren, this ship is almost a carbon
copy. Except for 3 things: The flavor text, the
cost, and the ability. The funny thing about this
ship is that Victor de Alva was considered one of
the lamest, if not the most lame, Spanish crew. Why?
He was the same as 2 other, previous Spanish crew.
Ladies and gentlemen, this ship is Spain's answer to
the HMS Titan. But onto the actual ship, and enough
of my rambling.
At 15 points, for 5 masts, an SAT,
and S+S speed is really good. The cannons are okay,
but I don't mind rank 3. Call me crazy, I know.
But...what will this ship be armed
with? Why, only the best, and here is how you make
this ship a force to be reckoned with.
First, throw in the F&S Victor de
Alva, who is a captain, and gives an extra action on
a 5 or 6. This means you have a chance of 3 extra
actions! Plus, he links to the ship! Next, add a
helmsman, for +S movement. Finally, add in Nemesio
Diaz, who allows you to cancel one ability within S,
and Contessa Anita Amore, who gives you +5 points.
So for 25 points, you can move
S+S+S x3, shoot, and cancel! If there's a better
combo, please tell me!
All in all, an awesome ship. I
can't wait to get my hands on it. A 5/5 from me.
