The Gold Eagle wants to be added to the list of fine
15-point American ships like the Bonhomme Richard,
Intrepid, Eagan, Ghost Walker, and the OE
Constitution. Sorry, but this Eagle can't fly that
high.
A ship with three 3L cannons shouldn't cost more
than 11-12 points unless her ability is especially
valuable. The Reverse Captain does not qualify; as
I've said before, it's not that useful and it's way
overpriced. If you want those cannons and have 15
points to spend, get the Jarvis - she's faster, has
more cargo, and has a more useful ability. Or save 3
points and get the Cleveland, which has Broadside
Attack. Or spend one point more and get the
Kettering, a Longship with
S+L speed and a Canceller ability. Or... or get
almost anything else
but this ship. She's not horrible, but you can
definitely do better.
As soon as you read the Gold Eagle’s ability, you
know it’s supposed to be a fighter; it has the
reverse captain (Shoot-then-Move) ability in
addition to the Schooner keyword. How much is it
worth though? All of its cannons are 3L, it has a
move of L, and it has three spaces for cargo. I’d
say it’s an average fighter right there. However, it
costs 15 points and it’s all because of that
Shoot-then-Move.
15 points might’ve been worth it if the Gold Eagle
were a little fast or had better guns, but as it is,
it’s just overpriced.
