Masts: 3
Cargo: 4
Moves: S+S
Guns : 2S,2S,2S
Hit %: 200 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls.
This little ship seems to have spinal columns for
masts. She also has three good cannons, a fair turn
of speed, and deep cargo holds. All of this adds up
to a ship that can fill any of the three major roles
(gold runner, fighter, and boarder), and be above
average in each, for a price that's just about
average.
Her crew depends on her mission. If you use her for
gold, a Helmsman is all she needs. Add a Captain
(and maybe a Helmsman) to make a medium gunship out
of her. For the boarding mission, she needs no crew
at all, although someone who lets you wipe out an
entire enemy crew with a boarding action might be a
nice addition.
In sum, this is a medium-priced ship with a lot of
potential in multiple roles. When your enemy sees
it, he can't know what you plan to do with it, and
the element of surprise can't be overestimated.
Bottom line:
good ship.
I'd've thought they'd use the Grim Reaper name for a
Scorpion boat. I mean, with the scythe and all...
On to the boat: this ship is a very good boat! She's
only got three masts, but she can function well in
any role you give her. She's got some good speed
built-in (S+S), she's got good cannons (three 2S),
she gets a +1 boarding bonus, and she can carry four
pieces of gold!
Treasure hunting, fighting, boarding...this ship can
do it all. 12 points is a good value for all these
abilities! My only complaint is that she doesn't
have any L-range cannons.
