Cadet-Captain Mike Name: Hades' Realm (Cursed)
Card: RotF #102 (Special Edition)
Points: 13

Masts: 4
Cargo: 4
Moves: S
Guns : 3S,3S,3S,3S
Hit %: 200 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: If this ship has a crew with the Captain keyword, she gets +L to her base move.

Hmmm. How to use this ship most effectively? You can use her for gold, since she has plenty of room for treasure. Put the Captain on her and she gets S+L speed, with three cargo free, plus the ability to defend herself if attacked, or even to pick on enemy gold ships who try to clean out an island first. Not bad at all. 16 points sail-away cost is a bit steep for a gold ship like this, though. Compare her to the RV Neptune's Hoard and you'll see what I mean.

You can give her the Captain and use her for fighting, but four average cannons aren't the best way to win a shooting war. If that's your goal, in addition to the Captain, you'd want Tabatha McWarren and one of the other factions' world-hater crew, to run her hit percentage up to 267%.
Try the OE Crimson Angel for your world-hater if you've got her; for one more point, you get a SAT, and now you've got a dangerous ship indeed.
You've also spent 24 points on her. You'd think the Last Hope would be a better value, but with matching abilities (Helmsman, McWarren, and a crew like Jonathan Haraden for the Captain and SAT), you save only one point and lose a cargo space.

Or you can put a Captain on her and use her for boarding; four masts is good for winning boarding actions. The DJC Sammy the Skull gives you the Captain keyword and a +1 on boarding rolls, so he'd be a better choice for crew. The sail-away cost would be 19 points, which is reasonable for a good rammer/boarder that can also fight well.

Bottom line: because this ship's role isn't clearly defined, but her stats are pretty good, you can use her any way you like. As long as she has some kind of Captain on board! If not, leave her home.

Draco Starcloud Hades' Realm

Today's boat is one of those Special Edition 4-mast boats that are usually pretty good at something. The Hades' Realm is something of an exception.

Right away I'll say that no matter what, this boat needs a captain. Her base move is a pitiful S, but a captain adds +L to her move. A helmsman would be good for making her into a speedy battle wagon. Her cannons though are all very average, all four are 3S.

With four cargo spaces, you'd think this boat would make a decent treasure ship, but that S speed means if you want to be able to get to any treasure quickly, you'll need a Captain or a Helmsman, and they'll reduce the precious treasure space.

This boat is a very lame duck, but useful under the proper circumstances. Circumstances aren't always proper though. For thirteen points, you don't get much.

I give the Hades' Realm a 1.5/5.
