The Ventura would be a very nice gold ship indeed
(in spite of her garish sails), except for one
little problem. She can't weigh her anchor. Or maybe
her sails are made of Spandex instead of canvas.
Regardless of the reason, they ruined a perfectly
good ship by making her slow, too slow, way too
slow.
Her price tag is okay, her cannons are fair, and her
cargo is well above average. Her ability isn't much
help to a gold ship. But it could be handy to reveal
the crew on enemy gunships - it's good to know who's
carrying a Canceller and who has a Firepot before
you commit to battle.
You could put a Helmsman on the Ventura and make a
fair gold ship out of her. But El San Jose, for the
same price, has similar cargo, better speed without
a Helmsman, and a better gold-ship ability.
I suppose you could use this ship, deck her out with
crew, and get some use out of her. But she is so
mediocre in so many ways, and the Spanish have so
many better ships, that I can't recommend her for
much.
