Let's kick off Rise of the Fiends French Week with
France's biggest ship in the new release: a
four-master. Yes, France didn't do too well in
Fiends, in terms of sheer numbers or ship size.
This is kind of an average ship across the board.
All 3S cannons, lowish speed and cargo, and an
ability that helps her only if she sinks. Why use
her at all? Well, her fore and aft sails are pretty,
if that matters to you. Her price isn't bad for four
masts with decent cannons. Put a Captain and
Helmsman on her, and she can fight, or ram and
board. Not very well, but not badly, either. If she
runs into something that fights better than her, the
Eternal ability is a permanent life-insurance policy
that gives her another chance.
I guess WK wanted to give France something with the
Eternal keyword. In the Tepant, that's about all
France got. I hereby suggest that this ship be
renamed the Tepid, because she's neither hot nor
cold.
It’s a French week dead ahead and we’re starting it
off with a four-mast French frigate, the Tepant. Its
only keyword or ability is Eternal, which has become
very widespread in Rise of the Fiends. This is a
very good and cheap ability (two points for a crew
with just Eternal, one for Eternal and Hostile)
which is an incredible investment considering
Eternal can save a boat and all its pricey crew from
doom. The Tepant has very average stats: four cargo
spaces, all 3S guns, and an L-move. The Eternal
keyword though makes this boat a good investment at
11 points. The sails have a neat rainbow effect on
them too.
I give this boat a 4.5/5. Better guns or a useful
ability, even if it meant adding a point or two to
its cost, would’ve made this boat a perfect in my
opinion.

Hi
everyone, welcome to RotF Week: France. Now, France
was screwed over in this set. Not as bad as in SM or
PotC, but really badly.
Luckily, though, they got a few things that made it
-not- so bad. It was still pretty bad, though.
Tepant, 11 points, French
Masts: 4
Cargo: 3
Speed: L
Cannons: 3S 3S 3S 3S
Abilities: Eternal.
Flavor Text: Claimed to have been sunk by every
faction on the sea, the Tepant continues to sail
proudly for France.
First off, I have some huge problems with this ship.
I hate the color gradient sails. And the fact that
it has Eternal. Just obnoxious. This is an
overestimation, but I think that at least 1/4 of the
RotF pieces got Eternal. Boring.
Now, onto the ship. I like that the Tepant is cheap,
at 11 points. Its cannons are all average, though.
Luckily we have Gentil de Barbinais from SCS, who is
a worldhater. Automatically, the ship now has rank 2
cannons. Unfortunately though, we can't fix the
range.
Then, we need a captain and helmsman. Of course,
this cuts out to be 20 points, but at least it can't
die! Right? A few problems with being
Eternal:
1. It can be canceled, meaning that you permanently
lose the ship.
2. It takes 4 turns to repair the ship to full. The
game will probably be over by then.
However, if the game goes on for a long time,
there's a good chance of the Tepant coming back,
kicking butt and taking names. I could see myself
using this ship. It may be half of your fleet for
Barbinais, a captain, and a helmsman, or less than
that if you don't take Barbinais, but the Tepant is
a good support ship.
It receives a 3.5/5 from me.
