This week, we'll go back and look at some unreviewed
English ships from the very first Pirates release.
The first one, HMS Bolingbroke, is a first-rate
secondary fighter (does that make sense?) for a very
good price.
Her cannons are just about perfect. Her speed and
cargo are typical, but useful. Her ability comes
into play most often in confused clusters of
fighting ships; otherwise, it usually isn't hard to
steer around a ship to get a shot at another. That
means the Bolingbroke will shine in big games with
many ships in play. In smaller games, she'll still
serve you well, just not quite as well. She can run
gold in a pinch, but there are other ships that can
do a better job of that.
Nine points for three good cannons and fair speed is
a bargain in my book. Give her a Captain, maybe a
Helmsman, and hoist the Union Jack!
