Name: Mohican (USA)
Card: DJ #091 (Uncommon)
Points: 11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 4
Moves: L
Guns : 2S,2L,2S
Hit %: 200 (S), 67 (L)
Ability: Crew of any nationality may use their
abilities on this ship.
Unlike the other any-nationality ships we're looking
at this week, the Mohican has a clearly defined
role. Look at her cannons and try to guess what that
role is.
You guessed it, she's a fighting ship, and a good
one for a three-master. Her price is low, so adding
her to your fleet won't break your point budget,
even after you add a Captain and Helmsman. But with
her ability, and with so few abilities available for
American fighting crew, it will be tempting to
replace the Captain with something more effective.
Just don't spend too much on crew that you can't
afford to lose; three masts can fall very quickly in
the heat of battle. I guess you could use the
Mohican for gold, but even the USA has better gold
ships for lower prices.
The Mohican is an excellent backup fighter, and a
good value for her point cost. Definitely give her a
chance to prove herself in battle.
Maybe two or three chances.
I love these theme weeks, don't you? This week's
theme is ships with "Crew of any nationality may use
their abilities on this ship."
This ability is great not only because it gives you
a near-unlimited selection of crew, but also because
using another nation's crew can give you an
advantage your opponent may not expect.
On to the boat...
The Mohican has a nice blend of traits that you can
easily enhance to fit whatever role you want for
her. Her guns are a 2L and two 2S, so she can fight.
She carries four cargo, so she can do some gold
running. Her speed's just an L, so fighting might be
her better role.
For 11 points, you can some good versatility. It's
still only three masts though and her speed isn't
great for a gold runner though.
