Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Xiamen's Claws (Pirates)
Card: MI #031 (Uncommon)
Points: 13
Masts: 4
Cargo: 4
Moves: S+S
Guns : 2S,3S,3S,2S
Hit %: 233 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her boarding rolls.
She gets +2 instead if her opponent is a submarine.
Xiamen is the modern name for the port of Amoy, in
China. I think this pirate ship's name would sound
better on a Jade Rebellion junk, but nobody asked my
opinion. However, this ship is not junk.
She has four good cannons, so she can be a fighter.
Her speed and cargo are decent for a gold ship. If
you want to go a-boarding, there's nothing stopping
you. I'd add a Helmsman and head for the wild
islands; she can loot them of gold, and ram and
board anything that gets in her way, or anything
that gets to the islands first. Add a Captain as
well, and now she can play any role at all.
I like flexibility, and the Xiamen's Claws has it.
This is a versatile, underrated ship that can do
anything pretty well.
Sure are a lot of Mysterious Islands ships with
Boarding Bonuses, eh? Like the El Galeon De
Gibraltar, Xiamen's Claws gets +2 to boarding
against subs.
Cargo Spaces: Four cargo spaces is a good haul.
Masts: Two 2S and two 3S mean she can fight anything
she closes with if she needs to. She can do some
good damage.
Base Move: S+S is a good speed for catching things.
You may want to use it to assassinate crew members
more than stealing gold, but you could go either way
here.
Point Value: She's 13 points, which is a lot of
value since you get quite a few good features.
Xiamen's Claws is best as a fighter. Use her to rob
gold if you get the chance, but she'd be better
killing enemy crew. She's well-priced too.
