Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Le Bonaparte (France)
Card: DJ #078 (Uncommon)
Points: 16
Masts: 4
Cargo: 3
Moves: S+L
Guns : 3L,3S,3S,3L
Hit %: 200 (S), 100 (L)
Ability: Schooner. This ship cannot be shot at by
ships within S of her.
S-Range Immunity Week kicks off with the ship I fear
the most. One of my friendly enemies (Daniel Repaire-du-Lion,
if you read my battle reports) owns this ship and
uses it fairly often, and when I'm building a fleet,
I'm forever haunted by the chance that he'll bring
Le Bonaparte to the table.
She's too expensive to use as a gold ship, although
she'll do well at it if you have to. Likewise, she's
a decent boarder that can't be shot by the ship
that's pinning her, but that isn't her best role.
No, her task is to get up close and personal (using
her schooner turn) with anything that annoys her,
bang away with her 3-rank cannons, and watch the
enemy squirm and sweat as he tries to get enough
L-range guns into the narrow band between S and L so
they can shoot back. Even a 5-masted ship with all L
cannons has to watch it; if any part of its hull is
within S range, the immunity kicks in. The best
solution is a canceller, if you've got one. A
Captain crew is all she needs, but a Musketeer
and/or Cannoneer would also be a big help.
Le Bonaparte is a bit expensive for a four-masted
ship. But she is an excellent four-masted ship, and
a superb fighter. I give her above-average marks
across the board.
