Ability: This ship cannot be shot at by ships within
S of her.
The Calchas has fair speed, poor cargo, one good
cannon, and an ability that can make her almost
unhittable. She could make a good gold ship,
although the Pirates have many better gold ships for
fewer points. It's her ability that makes her cost
more than ships like the Venture, with similar stats
but only 4 points. That ability can save her life,
or even make her unhittable against ships with all S
cannons. But a one-masted ship can't survive a ram,
so unless you're playing against the Corsairs, don't
expect this little Pirate ship to survive much
opposition.
The Calchas (named for a seer in Greek mythology) is
a decent little ship. In any other faction, she'd be
a blessing. But the Pirates have so many small gold
ships for very low prices, many of which have two
masts for survivability, that I wouldn't recommend
using her very often.
