Ability: Mercenary, Submarine. If submerged, this
ship can ram another ship (then move away) and then
initiate a boarding party against that ship.
This submarine comes with two good cannons, fair
cargo, and the equivalent of the S-board ability. It
sounds like a good combo.
Too bad the Mercenary keyword kills its
effectiveness. It can't go home for repairs, so it
doesn't dare surface to use those cannons, for fear
of taking damage it can't fix. That limits it to the
ramming and boarding role. For success, it needs a
Helmsman and a crew that gives +1 on boarding rolls.
Too bad the Mercs don't have such a crew. Now you're
limited to ramming and boarding small ships only,
and if you lose, you lose your Helmsman and are
basically out of the battle. You could use that
Helmsman to run gold, but 12 points might be too
high a price to pay for immunity in transit, since
you can still get hurt while loading.
The Barracuda can ram with impunity, like all subs.
But that's about all it can do.
