Cadet-Captain Mike |
Name: El Monte Cristo (Spain)
Card: DJ #068 (Common)
Points: 11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 2
Moves: L
Guns : 2L,2L,2S
Hit %: 200 (S), 133 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her cannon rolls
against any non-Spanish ship.
The Monte Cristo is a medium-priced fighter than can
shoot holes in anything her size, and even take on
bigger ships if they aren't Spanish.
If you need something to watch your flanks or back
up La Cristal Del Obispo in battle, you've found
your ship.
Small cargo is the only bad thing I can say about
this ship, and this means that you'll probably want
a combo crew for the Captain. Duque Alfonso de
Castilla, who kills a crew with a hit once per turn,
is my favorite against other fighters. If you think
you'll be picking on gold ships, one of the three
Spanish captain/S-board crew might be a better
choice. A Helmsman is mandatory. If you need even
more crew, I'd use Alm. Carlos Pavon y Miranda, who
links to any Spanish ship; that frees a cargo space
for another crew of 3 points or less. My choice
would be Padre Francisco, who will let you pull in a
Cannoneer, Shipwright, or even Firepot Spec when you
need one.
Against non-Spanish ships, El Monte Cristo's gunnery
goes up to 250% at S range and 167% at long range.
That's hard to beat, especially for only eleven
points. This is a good fighter and an above-average
value.
Goldship rating: 2.1 / 5
Gun Ship rating: 3.9 / 5
Boarding rating: 2.3 / 5
Value for points: 3.3 / 5 |

El Monte Cristo
I guess it's Built-In World Hater Week. That's cool.
It makes it safe to assume that every boat's going
to be a fighter.
The El Monte Cristo almost doesn't need its
World-Hater ability though. Its cannons are already
two 2Ls and a 2S. Against non-Spanish ships, the El
Monte Cristo has almost perfect accuracy.
It's a good thing the El Monte Cristo is so good at
fighting, because it is a terrible gold-runner. It
only has two cargo spaces and its base move is just
"L".
If you play the Monte Cristo, just tuck a Captain
and a Helmsman aboard and you're ready to sail. The
ship's only flaw is its low cargo, but you wouldn't
want to spend a lot of points bulking up a
three-mast ship though. At 11 points, the El Monte
Cristo's not a bad deal, but it's still a little
pricey.
I give the El Monte Cristo a 3.75/5. |
