Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Buscador (Spain)
Card: SS #006 (Rare)
Points: 14
Masts: 3
Cargo: 7
Moves: L
Guns : 5S,5S,5S
Hit %: 50 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Hoist. If this ship is within S of an enemy
ship when this ship is given a move action, she gets
+S to her base move.
The wretched cannons of the "Searcher" make no
contribution whatsoever to Spain's fighting power.
Considering her other attributes, this does not
matter.
The Hoist ability enables this ship to pillage
islands like no ship before her, both exploring and
loading gold from a distance. Her cargo of 7 makes
this easier yet, even after filling one space with a
Helmsman (which you'd better do). Her bonus-move
ability could get her out of a jam, but with only
three masts, you don't want to let enemy ships get
that close in the first place. It also helps that
this is the cheapest of all the Hoist ships, so you
can afford another ship that can follow her around,
receive some of her treasure, and scoot for home
while the Buscador continues cleaning out wild
islands.
The authors of WK's fluff text just won't give Spain
a break; all we hear about is her faded glories of
the past. Ships like this ought to reverse that
trend. The Buscador is a first-rate gold ship that
deserves a place in any up-to-date Spanish fleet.
Protect her properly, and she'll make you "muy rico"
(very rich).
