Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Cutlass (Pirates)
Card: RV #010 (Common)
Points: 8
Masts: 2
Cargo: 3
Moves: S+L
Guns : 2S,2S
Hit %: 133 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Schooner. This ship gets +1 to her cannon
rolls against forts
within S of her.
Forts came out in the CC release, ended with the RV
release, and there
were only eleven of them. A bonus against forts,
therefore, falls into
the category of "useless abilities that are supposed
to be good."
Fortunately for the Cutlass, she can earn her keep
even if she never
sees a fort in her life.
Good speed, okay cargo, and a single-digit price tag
mean she'll make a
good gold ship. Good speed and two good cannons mean
she'll make a fine
support fighter. Why not give her a Captain and let
her do both? You can
add Gentleman Jocard for another cargo space if
you're expecting to to
more gold-digging than shooting, or a Musketeer if
you'd rather shoot.
But here's a word of advice: if you actually get the
chance to use her
against a fort, DON'T! Most forts have twice as many
cannons (or more)
as a two-masted ship, and even if both her cannons
score hits, she's
going to get badly hurt in return.
The Cutlass is a useful little ship with two good
attributes (speed and
price tag) and two pretty-good ones (cargo and
cannons). Forget her
ability. She'll serve you well in any capacity.
