As time passes and more and more ships get reviewed,
it's getting harder
to find a five-master to say good things about. This
limited-edition
Pirate ship has more speed than all but a handful of
five-masted ships,
and some other useful skills as well.
As soon as five masts begin racing around at S+L
speeds, the enemy is in
trouble. All her cannons are 3-rank, which is okay,
especially since
there are five of them, with a mix of S and L
ranges. Her cargo is
acceptable for a big ship. Her ability is more
commonly found on gold
ships, but a fighter that can make itself unrammable
and unboardable can
have a big advantage in close combat.
But there's one big problem: the price tag. Nineteen
points is hideously
high; even the OE version of the Deliverance, with
the same speed and
the same cannons, goes for only 16 points, and the
English have a slower
pair (HMS Goliath and HMS Lord Kettering) for only
13. That ghost-ship
ability will cost you plenty, so you'd better plan
to make full use of
it, or you'd be better off leaving this big ship
home.
The only other five-masted ships that can keep up
with the Deliverance
unaided are the underrated HMS Swallow, the OE
Deliverance, and two sea
monsters, Calim and Intermediario. Her speed and
ability are her strong
points. Plan your battle around them and she ought
to do well. If you
just need a gunfighter, you can do better elsewhere.
