Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Algiers (Corsairs)
Card: BC #012 (Common)
Points: 11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 5
Moves: S+L
Guns : 3S,3S,4S
Hit %: 133 (S), 0 (L)
Link : Wesley
Ability: Galley. After looking at treasure on a wild
island, you may trade any one treasure from that
island for a random treasure on any other wild
island. This ship must load the traded treasure.
Pirates of the Barbary Coast was the last faction to
feature fast ships (S+L or better) in any quantity,
and admirals like me who like the Corsairs will tout
their speed as one of their best features. The
Algiers is a fine example.
With her speed and her enlarged cargo holds, the
Algiers makes a fine gold ship, and her ability only
makes her better. A ship like this could make you
rich in no time, grabbing the best treasure from two
wild islands in one trip, with enough speed to make
a second trip for even more booty. An Explorer might
be a worthwhile investment, since he'll be used two
or three times in the course of a battle, and this
ship will still have plenty of room for cargo. She's
not much of a fighter or boarder, even with her
linked crew; Wesley's move/shoot and boarding bonus
will be more useful on a four-masted fighter like
the Janissaries'
Blood, link or no link.
Eleven points is on the high end for a gold ship
that isn't totally extraordinary, which the Algiers
isn't. But she's very, very good.
