Sea monsters, as a rule, are cool to think about and
expensive to use.
They fare best against ships that can't shoot back
effectively.
Maxehebel might be one of the better ones.
A speed of L isn't too bad a handicap for most
ships; spend two more points on a Helmsman and away
you go. Sea serpents can't do that, although if you
can arrange to keep the Sargasso Nightmare or the RF
Hag of Tortuga nearby, they can give this beastie a
speed boostie. Its cargo of zero means your boarding
actions can either kill crew or do no harm, which
means Maxehebel is best used against fighting ships
with worthwhile crew -- a bad idea for most sea
monsters. This one is different. It can bob to the
surface, blast its foe with four good cannons, and
then scoot away (one of the few good uses for a
reverse-Captain ability). Then it can ram and board
once the enemy has been cut down to size. It's a
different way to use sea monsters, but it ought to
work.
Max's price is typical for sea monsters, which is to
say, too high. In this case, it's the
reverse-Captain you're paying for; this has always
been overpriced. Compare Max to Shaihulud, which is
faster, cheaper, and has better cannons, but a less
costly ability. But if you can afford it, this sea
serpent can make a good contribution to a Cursed
battle fleet.
