One of the Cursed faction's biggest weaknesses is
their lack of good gold ships. This shows in the
fact that one of their best treasure-getters has a
speed of S, which knocks most ships so far out of
the gold-ship category, they can't even see it with
a telescope. But the Dark Pact is an exception to
that ironclad rule.
Yes, S is way too slow for gold running. But with
a cargo of 6, you have plenty of room to add a
Helmsman, and now your speed is adequate and you
still have 5 cargo free. The no-kill ability will
keep that Helmsman safe from boarding actions and
from ships that kill crew. Those four masts are too
poor for fighting, but they'll make you very hard to
sink.
The only real drawback to this ship is her cost,
which (like most Cursed
ships) is on the high side. This drags her
value-for-points score down somewhat.
The Dark Pact is a good choice if you're
expecting the foe to energetically pursue your gold
ships; she can take a beating and keep on sailing,
giving your fighters time to get close and rescue
her. Without a Helmsman, she's a tortoise; with one,
her gold-ship rating is 4.1, which blows away most
Cursed ships. If you can afford her, you won't be
sorry you used her.
