Ability: Sea Monster. This sea monster can attack
submerged submarines.
This sea serpent, unlike the other ships we
reviewed this week, doesn't have a cargo of 6. What
it does have is the potential to utterly ruin an
enemy's submarine war.
This beastie has good cannons, high speed, and a
reasonable point cost, which are all rarities for
sea creatures. But while most sea monsters do their
best work against gold ships and small fighters,
Shaihulud's natural prey is submerged subs. It is
faster than any of them, and has the ability to
"shoot" them under water. Such a sub can't shoot
back, ram, or run away. The sub's only hope is to
surface and hope a friendly fighter is nearby,
preferably a canceller or one that can also shoot
submerged ships. If the enemy doesn't bring a sub to
the battle, you still have the power to prey on the
gold ships and the small fighters.
Shaihulud got its name from the huge sandworms of
Frank Herbert's "Dune"
novels. This one is no desert dweller, but it is
certainly a maker of death. If you expect to face an
enemy submarine, I can think of no better reply than
this sea monster.
