Maui's Fishhook
The larger of the two Super Rares of Savage Shores,
the Maui's Fishhook is one of the new Hoist Boats,
which looks a lot like Bombardiers except with big
cranes instead of cannons. She's also English, just
so you know.
The Hoist rules are kind of odd, but I think they
can be summarized as such: the hoist works like a
built-in explorer. The hoist also allows you to
transfer cargo from wild islands to other ships
within the hoist's range.
The Maui's Fishhook also has the Secret Hold
keyword, so your enemies can't remove her cargo
unless they sink her.
Her third ability is that she can also randomly take
one treasure from any ship within S of her.
Maui's Fishhook has a link to the Super Rare crew,
Lady Kamaile, who allows all nationalities of crew
to serve on the Maui's Fishhook. She also allows you
to mark islands as explored from S away.
Cargo Space: Maui's Fishhook has a grand five cargo
spaces, which is great since gold running is her
best feature.
Masts: The hoist doesn't count, so she only has
three. She's well-armed though with two 3L and one
2L.
Base Move: Unfortunately, you may need those guns
since Maui's Fishhook only has a base move of L. She
may be a gold runner, but she's not a fast gold
runner.
Point Cost: If it weren't for her 20 point cost, I'd
say park her next to wild islands and use her to
fill up other gold runners, but leaving her in one
place would make her vulnerable to your enemy's
gunboats.
The Maui's Fishhook can be a great gold runner, but
she needs crew to shore up her weaknesses and she's
already got a higher price tag than most gold
runners. The hoist is a neat gimmick, but I'm not
sure it's worth the cost more than once.
