It's the first of the 10 Top Pirate Cards of 2008!
Us reviewers submitted our person Top Ten lists to
Pojo to make an overall list. We're reviewing all
ten cards, starting with the bottom.
First up is the one of the new and few generic crew
of the Savage Shores set. He goes hand-in-hand with
a new type of terrain called "Trade Current."
Here's the Trade Current description in case you
don't own one: "Trade current is friendly to the
player who placed it. Once per turn when a friendly
ship moves over or begins her turn touching a
friendly trade current, she gets +S to her base
move."
And the Navigator's power is: "When this ship is
given a move action, instead of moving her you may
roll a d6. On a result of 3-6, put a trade current
within S of any friendly ship."
So the Navigator gives you a 2-in-3 (66%) chance to
lay down a permanent spot where all of your ships
get a +S to their movement.
I find this to be of limited usefulness, though
others may disagree. If you're playing a big game,
maybe getting +S in a strategic spot will help in
the long run, but I can't see it helping much in a
short game, especially if you end up placing it
somewhere out of the way. I'd rather have a
helmsman.
Give this guy a shot though if you want. He only
costs 2 points.
