Flavor Text: By having their oarsmen row the Carthage onto shore, the crew
ensures that she is ignored by both sea and coastal
cannons.
Unlike the Majestic, yesterday’s
ship, the Carthage is a very, very decent
ship. Ship that cannot be shot while docked is not a
common ability, and as far as I know only three
ships have it, the Coral, the Carthage,
and La Academia. The Coral and the
Carthage are both 1 masted ships, move S+L, have
3 cargo spaces, and are relatively cheap. Despite
its rather expensive cost, this ship is worth every
penny. Most ships that are eight points are 2-3
masted with terrible cannons, such as La Monarca.
If a ship such as the Harbinger or the
Zeus for whatever occasion it is, the
Carthage will still be around even when all
ships nearby are gone, because this ship cannot be
shot while docked. With a cannon like that, you
probably don’t want to get into a brawl with other
ships your size unless you have a captain aboard so
that you can conveniently “park” at a wild island
and shoot from there.
This ship should not board nor ram, because that
will involve revealing this ship’s weak spot, for
the sea is not an island. Also, if your opponent has
this ship, you should ram this ship to derelict it
with a ship such as the Philadelphia so that you can
capture that ship because this ship is worth its
weight in points.
Gold was intended idea, with its terrible cannon,
its large hold, and even better speed. This ship can
still be crippled by Luddite’s Revenge and
Runes of Death, but because it’s a small 1
masted ship the most it can do is derelict the ship.
The galley ability allows it to move S even when
derelict, so it is not totally defenseless when it
loses its only mast.
Overall, this ship is quite flexible because of its
ability, but if your opponent has an ability
canceller or there are no wild islands in the game,
then this ship is as good as gone.
