Fifteen points is a "sweet spot" for the US Navy.
They have some excellent ships with that price tag,
including the Bonhomme Richard, Ghost Walker,
Intrepid, USS Eagan, and the OE Constitution. I'd
like to add the United States to that honor roll,
but I can't.
The real problem is her speed, or rather, her
complete lack of it. Her move with a Helmsman is the
same as the Bonhomme Richard without one, and the
Richard has better cannons and more cargo. If you
crew this ship with Captain and Helmsman, she's an
average fighter with a 50% chance of crushing you
with a Broadside... if she can catch you, that is.
If her base move was L like most other 5-masted
ships, then her Helmsman-enhanced move would be a
very playable S+L. But her maxed-out
S+S move just won't let you catch much.
When you look at the other ships that 15 points
could buy you, it's hard to recommend the United
States. In raw gun power, she's not bad, but those
guns aren't going to get many chances to shoot,
because the ship is just too slow!
Hmmm...I wonder which nation this ship belongs to? I
could be up all night trying to solve this case!
Cargo Space: I say it a lot, but three spaces is
about right for a fighting ship.
Masts: A five-mast ship with Broadsides is a thing
to be feared, especially when the guns are all 3,
two 3S and three 3L to be precise. It's a pretty
typical mix.
Base Move: A single S...owch. A Helmsman is a must.
Absolute must.
Point Value: 15 points? Are you kidding me?! A
worthy addition to any fleet!
If her guns had been 2s or her move an "L" or
higher, she'd get a big 5.
