Name: Whydah (Cursed)
Card: DJC #012 (Uncommon)
Points: 12

Guns : 4S,2S,2S,4S

Ability: Schooner. If this ship has a Captain crew,
she gets +1 to her cannon rolls.
There really was a slave ship called the Whydah,
captured by "Black Sam"
Bellamy as the fluff text says, but the real ship
was a galley and not a schooner. Still, it's
interesting to find a hint of historicity in a game
that's become infamous for its flights of fancy.
The ship itself is a very slow fighter. Add a
Captain and Helmsman, as you would normally do, and
what a change! Not only does her speed double, but
her cannons' accuracy goes up to 267%, a very
respectable figure. Of course, that runs up her
sail-away cost to 17 points, but the Cursed have no
ships with better gunnery for anywhere near that
price.
So if a fighting strategy is your style, this ship
is a good starting point for your fleet. If you can
afford it, you might replace the Captain with either
of the two Sammy the Skull's; I'd prefer the
boarding-bonus version to the Fear version, but
that's just me.
The Whydah would not be considered exceptional if
she flew the flag of most other factions. But if
you're running an all-Cursed fleet, she could easily
be your flagship. If she were a bit faster, she'd
really shine, but you're still getting fair value
for your points.
