Compare Le Triton to the last three ships I
reviewed, and you can see the difference a little
extra speed makes. Her stats aren't that different
from the others, but the fact that she can get out
of her own way without a Helmsman makes all the
difference in her ratings.
Her guns aren't quite up to snuff for fighting, so
I'd use her for gathering gold. She needs no crew at
all for this, and she's got plenty of room for
pieces of eight. The "cannot be pinned" ability is
mostly useful for boarding ships, and there's
nothing stopping you from stealing some enemy
treasure that way. But I wouldn't plan my tactics
around boarding; I'd run for the gold, and board if
the opportunity arises, rather than chase an enemy
ship halfway across the map in hopes of ramming her.
France got some fine gold ships in their first two
releases. Le Triton is one of them. She gives a lot
of value for her point cost. If you've got her, and
you don't have any of the cheaper French gold ships
like Le Bon Marin, Le Pique, or L'Intrepide, then by
all means use her.
