Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Executioner (Pirates)
Card: RV #007 (Common)
Points: 8
Masts: 2
Cargo: 4
Moves: S+S
Guns : 2L,2L
Hit %: 133 (S), 133 (L)
Ability: Once per turn when this ship hits an enemy
ship, also eliminate one crew from that ship.
Now here, we have the classic Pirate ship. The
Executioner is reasonably fast, has killer cannons
and an equally deadly ability, and deep cargo holds,
all for a very low price. No question she's a
shooter, but she can also pick up a doubloon or two
while she's looking for trouble. A Captain is
mandatory, a Helmsman would be a help, and a
Musketeer or Firepot would be icing on the cake if
you can afford them.
There are a surprising number of ships that are
broadly similar to this one, so let's compare them.
The Spaniard, La Reconquistador (OE), is cheaper but
slower and has half the cargo. The American, USS
Quigley, is also slower and has smaller cargo. The
Englishman, HMS Disraeli, is similar to the
Reconquistador but has worse cannons. The Pirate,
Dolphin, has much worse cannons and smaller cargo,
but costs less. The only ship in the Executioner's
league is another Pirate, the Royal James, with more
speed and the Schooner keyword, but smaller cargo
and S-range cannons.
In plain English, if you're looking for an
inexpensive secondary fighter, it's hard to do
better than the Executioner. She has it all, and
room for gold besides. They just don't make ships
like this any more.
