When I reviewed the Pirate ship Executioner a few
days ago, I lamented that "they just don't make
ships like this any more." Well, with the Savage
Shores release, at least they tried.
This is a Pirate junk with several virtues -- speed,
low price, and some decent cannons. For harassing
enemy gold ships, all the crew she needs is a
Captain. A Cannoneer could be useful if you want to
blast the enemy, or you could keep one cargo space
free to steal something good from a derelict before
you sink it. To use her as a back-up for a bigger
gunship, I'd add a Musketeer or a Firepot to ramp up
her offensive potential. She's just okay as a gold
ship (her cargo is small for that role), and
two-masters don't make good boarders.
I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation of her
Chinese name; I'll guess at ZEE-ann, and if I'm
wrong, someone will let me know. But I'm pretty sure
I'm right about one thing -- this is the first ship
in a long time that looks like the inexpensive,
speedy ships from the days of Crimson Coast and
Revolution. If your priorities are like mine, and
speed is the value you look at first, then this ship
should be on any Pirate admiral's "A" list for small
fighters.
