Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Meropis
(Mercenary)
Card: MI #011 (Uncommon)
Points: 14
Masts: 3
Cargo: 3
Moves: S+S
Guns : 3L,2L,3L
Hit %: 167 (S), 167 (L)
Link : Ibrahan Ozat
Ability: Mercenary. After this ship resolves a shoot
action, she may move as a free action.
The Meropis isn't like a lot of Merc ships, which
make you ask, "What is this thing good for?" She
actually has a role that she can play well.
That role is boarding. The reverse-Captain ability
works best in this role -- shoot off the enemy's
masts, then move to ram and board him when he's
weakened. Or, if you're pinned from a previous ram,
shoot his last masts off, then move away once he's a
derelict. The linked crew gives an S-board, which
enhances a boarding ship's flexibility and saves a
cargo space due to the link. But her low mast count
means she shouldn't pick on big ships, so her
intended target is probably the enemy's two-masted
gold runners. With a Helmsman on board, you can
probably catch a few of these and steal their
goodies.
Alternately, you can use Captain and Helmsman and
use her as a fighter that can either move and shoot,
or shoot and move. Her cannons aren't bad; she could
do some harm this way. Either way, the Meropis gets
something I don't give to Merc ships very often:
above-average marks for value.
