If this ship had come out in one of the early
Pirates releases, they would have given her S+S or
S+L speed, and she'd have been a world-class ship.
As she is, she's a fine ship with multiple
possibilities.
To use her for gold, she needs a Helmsman, leaving
three free cargo; her ability equates to adding a
2-gold coin with every load, which compensates for
the coin you can't carry because of the Helmsman.
She'll serve well in this capacity. To use her as a
fighter, I'd use Captain, Helmsman, and a Firepot
Spec or Fire Shot, to take advantage of those
excellent cannons. Or, with just Captain and
Helmsman, she can serve a dual role; she can fight
something small or medium-sized and win, then load
two coins on the way home for repairs. I love
dual-rule ships, since they don't lock you into one
set of tactics.
The Greed's Hammer is a good ship for a good price.
I've designed several Pirates fleets around her,
including the Deadly Sins Fleet (Greed's Hammer and
Pride). Using her is no sin, though; it's a very
good idea.

Name: Greed’s Hammer

Firepower: one 2S, one 2L, one 2S
Cost: 11 points
Ability:

The week continues with Greed’s Hammer from SC. A
very fitting name, since this ship has a split
personality. Her ability and cargo say ‘gold’. While
her cannons and speed say ‘’fighting’. It’s hard to
ignore either, so use her for both.
Put on Hammersmith from F/S, a fitting name for a
fitly named ship. With his helmsman and captain’s
ability he saves you a cargo space. More cargo space
equals more gold and with the +2 from this ships
ability you’re in a win, win situation. So you can
use Hammersmith on Greed’s Hammer while being greedy
for gold. Furthermore, his captain’s ability and
those excellent cannons allow you to be a bit
violent towards other ships too.
What more could any pirate want. I find it hard to
fault this ship; if I had her in my collection I
would use her without a thought.
