I love double-tough masts. They make a ship so hard
to sink, the enemy is likely to concentrate on them
and leave the rest of your fleet to do what it
pleases. HMS Lord Kenyon is a good example of the
breed.
She's typical of such ships, with low speed and
above-average cargo. I'd use her as a back-up
fighter in support of my big gunship, with Captain
and Helmsman. You could just use the Helmsman and
send her after gold; her ability would protect her
against most gold-ship chasers, she'd still have
three cargo free for treasure, and the price is
right.
Compared to the similar American ship Emerald, the
Englishman has twice the cargo, but is slower, has
worse cannons, and (incredibly) costs more. Compared
to the Spanish Santa Lucia, the Lord Kenyon has more
cargo but slightly worse guns. And compared to her
near-sister, HMS Lord Cauldwell, this ship has
double the cargo but is otherwise identical.
The HMS Lord Kenyon is a solidly-built little ship
that deserves a place in any English fleet. She can
take on ships twice her size and expect to still
have a mast standing when the smoke from the first
volley clears.
