Eight-Point Ships Week begins with a Pirate ship
from the Crimson Coast release. The Bonnie Liz is a
speedy little treasure hauler with few equals.
Five cargo and S+L speed for only eight points is
a fantastically good value. Only one other ship can
match her stats for fewer points, and that's another
Pirate, the Bloody Jewel. You could put crew on her,
but with her speed, she needs little help for
grabbing gold, and you can do better if you want an
8-point Pirate fighter (like the Xi'an, the RV
Cutlass and Executioner, and one of my favorites,
the Royal James). Her ability to use English crew
might have meant something when CC came out, but now
the Pirates have every kind of crew they'll ever
need.
It might be easy to confuse this ship with her
half-sister, the Bonny Kate. That ship costs one
point less, has better cannons, and is less than
half as capable at gold hauling. They'd make a good
team, with a Captain on the Kate for fighting, and
no crew on the Liz for gold running.
Cheap gold ships are traditionally the Pirates'
stock in trade, and the Bonnie Liz is a fine
example. You don't need fancy tactics to use her
well; just point her at the wild islands and keep
the enemy fighters off her back.
