Cadet-Captain Mike |
Name: Muninn (Vikings)
Card: FN #006 (Common)
Points: 18
Masts: 3
Cargo: 3
Moves: S+S
Guns : 2L,3L,3L
Hit %: 333 (S), 333 (L)
Ability: Longship. After this ship resolves a shoot
action, she may move as a free action.
The Muninn, named for one of the ravens that
brought Odin the news of the world, shares the title
of "Most Expensive Common Ship" with the Naegling
and the USS Springfield. The Naegling is a killer
but is slightly overpriced, the Springfield is okay
but badly overpriced, and the Muninn is... well,
let's see.
She's fair at gold, but not for 18 points, so
forget that role. As a fighter, her cannons are
quite good indeed, but she shares the weakness of
all longships, the "reverse-Acorazado effect" (one
hit on her removes two cannons). As a boarder, she's
decent, with the longship's boarding bonus and the
shoot/move ability. I'd give her a Captain, maybe a
Helmsman, and use her as aggressively as I could.
The Muninn isn't quite as good as the Naegling,
but she's far better than the Springfield. But it's
hard to justify spending almost half of a standard
40-point build on a three-masted ship. If you're a
Vikings fan, this ship can certainly fight, but she
probably can't justify her high cost.
