This version of the Flying Dutchman (there are three
versions in the
game) is certainly the weakest of the lot. But even
a weak five-master is not a foe to casually ignore,
so let's take a closer look at her.
Just about all of her stats are what we'd call
typical of a big ship.
Except for one: her low price tag. Only two five-masted
ships can be had for less than eleven points, the
Spanish Morning Star (worse cannons and a negative
ability) and the Cursed Mourning Star (smaller cargo
and slower). Her low cost makes her an ideal
flagship for a Pirate combo fleet; even with Captain
and Helmsman, you can still afford a small fighter
with similar crew, with points left over for three
or four cheap gold ships. Or you can add fighting
crew and make her really dangerous; the OE Crimson
Angel (world-hater and SAT) would be a fine
candidate here.
This Flying Dutchman is not an outstanding ship, but
she offers outstanding value for her point cost. If
you're a Pirate looking for a good fighter that
won't use up all your points, here she is.
