For our first formal reviews in months, we'll do a
week of Six-Point Ships. Exhibit "A" is the
Queen of Sheba, named for the North African queen
who visited King Solomon to hear his wisdom (and,
according to tradition, got trapped into some royal
friskiness with the King).
Question: does it show wisdom to use this ship?
If five cargo for six points with decent speed
doesn't scream "gold ship" in your ears, then have
your ears checked. You don't have to add a Helmsman,
but if you do, she'll really skim across the waves.
Her cannons are good, but her negative ability means
you won't ever want to use them. So, even though she
has most of the stats for a good secondary fighter,
don't make her fight. She's too small for boarding,
so that's not her job, either.
To get a ship with 5 cargo for 6 points or less, you
have to endure a negative ability; the Bloody Jewel
is the best in this category, and she gives the
Americans a +1 cannon bonus against her. The Queen
of Sheba's negative ability need never come into
play at all, as long as she sticks to her gold
running. She's very good at that.
