I thought a "gallowglass" was some kind of window
in a ship, until I looked it up. It seems the
galloglass were elite Scottish mercenaries who
served in medieval Irish armies, and who swung huge
two-handed weapons. It doesn't seem right to apply
such a mighty name to a two-masted ship with 3-rank
cannons.
That's not to say there's anything seriously
wrong with the ship. For six points, you shouldn't
expect another HMS Titan. What you get is an
adequate back-up fighter that could make a worthy
helper to the Titan.
Let the big ship do all the damage to the enemy,
then let the Gallowglass finish off the derelicts,
and get a free repair in the process if she needs
one. For crew, I'd suggest Captain and Musketeer, so
she can take on another two-master by herself and
probably win. Her cargo is far too small for gold
running unless you're really stuck.
HMS Gallowglass does not swing a claymore, and
she certainly doesn't serve any Irish lords. But if
you need a low-priced support fighter for an English
fleet, you could do worse.
