It's Flotilla Week! I haven't reviewed many flotillas before, so we'll cover a batch of them at once, starting with the Widowmaker, a Pirate flotilla.
 
This floating fort has one thing going for it: it's dirt-cheap. Its cannons are far from world-class, but at 1-1/2 points per cannon, it's an excellent deal. You won't score many hits with those 4-rank cannons, so the Widowmaker's best use is to scare away small ships, which mostly means gold ships. Tow her out to a rich wild island and leave her there to guard it until you can clean it out; enemy gold ships will stay away, and if the enemy brings in a gunship to sink it, it will take him a turn or two, while it inflicts some damage in return and you have time to react.
 
Like many Pirates, the Widowmaker is not a world-beater. But her low price makes her worth adding to your fleet.
