Cadet-Captain Mike
Name: Tower (England)
Card: FS #019 (Rare)
Points: 9
Masts: 1
Cargo: 0
Moves: T
Guns : 2S,3S,3S,2S
Hit %: 233 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Flotilla, Extended Range. Once per turn
when this ship hits an enemy ship, also eliminate
one crew from that ship.
You don't need to look at the flag on this flotilla
to know which nation built it. Excellent guns, a
killer ability, and a reasonable price - this thing
has England written all over it.
Unlike yesterday's Widowmaker, which was basically a
defensive fort that floats, the Tower was meant for
a flotilla's other common use, which is to be a
gunship's helper. You might find reasons to tow her
somewhere and leave her there, but you'll get more
bang for the buck if you tow her into battle behind
a fighting ship. Those four cannons are a nice
addition to any fighting squadron, and if she's
being towed, she isn't using move actions, so she
can shoot every turn. If the enemy focuses on the
towing ship, the flotilla can keep on firing even if
the big ship sinks, and if he targets the flotilla,
he's ignoring an English fighting ship. That's a
nice dilemma to put someone in, not to mention the
double-range cannons and the crew-kill ability.
A ship with guns like these would probably set the
English back about 15 points. The Tower can't move
herself (most towers can't), but she can tag along
behind something that can move, and she's a very
good value for only nine points.
