Name:
USS Sioux (USA)
Card:
FN #080 (Uncommon)
Points:
11
Masts: 3
Cargo: 2
Moves: L
Guns : 3S,2L,3S
Hit %: 167 (S), 67 (L)
Ability: This ship gets +1 to her
cannon rolls against any non-American ship.
This ship, like the Kentucky we
reviewed yesterday, is a potentially good fighter
held back by her low speed. Her ratings are a bit
worse than the Kentucky's because she has one fewer
mast and her point cost is the same. But she has
some useful features that make her worth a long
look.
She has three fair-to-good cannons
that will be very good against anything that isn't
American. She needs a Captain and Helmsman, of
course, and that brings up the Sioux's other
handicap, her tiny cargo holds. Two crew is all she
can carry. You can't do much to improve her with
crew; the only real possibility is to use Jonathan
Haraden for a combined Captain and reroller.
This ship is very similar to the
USS Overton; that ship gives you all L-range cannons
and double the cargo for one point more. They both
have the virtue of not missing many shots (depending
on your own dice luck, of course). USS Sioux is not
the USA's best medium-weight fighter, but she's far
from the worst, and she deserves a chance to show
what she can do.
