Yesterday's ship, HMS Durham, was well above average
in every way. This sad little ship is the complete
opposite.
Her cannons are dreadful, and she has only two
masts, so that rules out fighting and boarding. As a
gold ship, she might do okay with a Helmsman on
board. Her ability sounds like fun, but if she's
moving S+L with a Helmsman, saving an S move isn't
that big a deal, even though you save it twice (once
on approaching your home island, and again on the
way out). Bear in mind that, in most games, a gold
ship will make only one or two cruises before the
battle ends, so this ability won't be one that you
will get to use very often. Her best role might be
as a gold shuttle, receiving treasure in mid-ocean
from faster ships and turning them loose for another
run, while she ferries the treasure home.
The Royal Navy is not renowned for their gold ships,
but even England has better ships than this. She
doesn't totally stink; her point cost is good, and
you can give her a try if you think an unfamiliar
ship will keep your enemy off balance. But she'll
never be on any admiral's "A" list.
