Name:
L'epee de L'ange (France)
Card:
SS #015 (Uncommon)
Points:
17
Masts: 4
Cargo: 3
Moves: L
Guns : 3L,4L,4L,3L
Hit %: 167 (S), 167 (L)
Ability: This ship's cannons can't
be eliminated (masts still can be).
If derelict, she can't shoot.
This ship's name means "The
Angel's Sword." If that's true, then the angels are
in trouble.
The main problem here is the price
tag; 17 points should buy a LOT more fighting power
than this ship gives you. Most of the expense is for
the special ability, which WizKids thought was much
better than it really is. We certainly aren't paying
for excellent cannons, or high speed, or deep cargo
holds here. We saw the same problem with France's
other big ship with this ability, L'Hercule, with a
bit more speed and 2S,3L,3L,2S cannons... for a
jaw-dropping 22 points. I won't be caught dead
spending all my points on that ship, or on this one.
They can't possibly be worth it. Not when you can
get a five-master like Le Superbe for 16 points, or
Le Soleil Royal for only 13.
Of course, France has a long and
proud tradition of giving us grossly overpriced
ships for 17 points. Le Loup-Garou is a very poor
value, while Le Solitaire is probably the worst ship
in the game, and both of them cost the same as this
one. I'd call this ship a fair value if she cost 12
or 13 points, but 17? Forget it. Tell the angels to
take up archery.
