Oh, for the days when Pirate ships
were good, fast, and cheap! The "fast" part has
dried up for all the factions lately, but you can
still find the other two here and there. Like here,
on this ship.
The Devil's Pay lacks the speed
that a really excellent gold ship needs, and her
cargo holds are a bit small and cramped. But for
only four points, you shouldn't expect another
Golden Medusa. What you do get is a ship that can
pay for itself quickly with gold. If you provide her
with a Captain (no Helmsman, the crew cost would be
too high), you can leave the crew home and run gold
for half the game, then pick up the Captain and
transform into a slow but accurate support fighter,
and cause the enemy some trouble. Her negative
ability won't hurt you much in either role, and that
ability is probably why she costs so little.
This isn't a great ship, okay? But
she's a pretty good little ship for a very, very low
price, which makes her an above-average value. She
isn't as fast as the Carrion Crow, and her pockets
aren't as deep as the Paradox, but for four points,
you're getting your money's worth and then some.
