Points:
7
Masts: 1
Cargo: 2
Moves: S+S+S

Hit %: 67 (S), 0 (L)
Ability: Once per turn, you may
reroll any die roll you make for this ship; you must
use the second die roll result.
Here's our English speed-burner,
and what does she do? Her ability is most useful for
fighters (as a substitute Cannoneer) and boarders
(in case she loses the boarding roll). But HMS
Discovery is neither.
England is mostly about fighting,
but she has a couple of ships that can serve as gold
runners, and here's one of them. She's cheap, she's
very fast, and while her cargo holds aren't deep, at
least they're bigger than 1. A ship like this should
be able to pay for herself in two gold runs, and she
has the speed to do it. With only one mast, she
should stay far away from any enemy ship; even a
simple ram will probably derelict her. Her ability
will come in very handy if you use her to grab gold
from mysterious islands; otherwise, gold runners
don't do much die-rolling.
But someone will probably try to
use her as a support fighter; after all, fighting is
what the English do best. Her one cannon will
usually hit, and her ability will change "usually"
to "almost always." If this is your plan, I'd crew
her with a Captain and a Musketeer, to almost double
the damage she can do. And if I had one point left
over, I'd use it for an Oarsman, because the chance
to shut down a ship with one hit is a big temptation
to most admirals.
This is an good little ship, made
excellent by her low price. England can always use a
few doubloons, as insurance in case her fighters
have a run of bad luck, and HMS Discovery is a
better-than-average choice.
