Hello
again to another edition of Blaze's
Banter. This week we are going to take
a look at a favorite deck of mine that I
played at the Connecticut State
Championships last year and came in 1st
place with it. This version is updated
to include some newer cards but the
concept is still the same. It's called
Green Heal and the concept is to use
Sceptile-ex to wreak havoc on your
opponent and whenever Sceptile-ex gets
damaged use Slowbro's Strange Behavior
to soak up the damage. Then when Damage
is pretty heavy use the Energy Trans
Sceptile's power to spread the Grass
energy around and then attack with
Sceptile-ex 1st attack Green
Heal to heal 40 damage of all your Pokes
that have Grass energy attached.
This
concept has been around since Base Set
days when the Alakazam Damage Swap on
120 HP Chansey then use Scoop Up or
Pokemon Center. My 2004 version ran
Pokemon Nurse. Alas, we no longer have
those trainers but what we do have is
Mr. Briney's Compassion and that is why
we run 2 in this deck. Although you
cant use Mr. Briney on Sceptile-ex, you
can however use it to Briney up a
Slowbro that is heavily damaged. Then
if you have an extra Rare Candy use it
on Slowpoke to re-evolve and use Strange
Behavior once again. There is also a
single copy of VS. Seeker in here to
reuse for a 3rd Briney or if
you need additional draw through
Steven's or our lone Prof. Oak's
Research.
After
setup via Dunsparce, Jirachi, and
Celio's then attacking with this deck is
really fun. Like I mentioned before
there is the Green Heal attack that only
costs 1 Grass Energy to use. Then
Sceptile-ex's 2nd attack
Poison Ring for 1 G and 2 C inflicts a
decent 40 damage and poisons the
defending Pokemon. But wait Poison ring
also locks the Defending Pokemon into
place by not allowing it to retreat to
the bench to heal from Poison. However,
your opponent can still use trainer
cards to get their Pokemon out of the
defending position. Lastly there is
Sceptile-ex's finishing move called
Slashing Strike that dishes out a
whopping 100 damage for 2 G and 3 C.
This is where Boost energy comes in
handy. After a nice Green Heal you can
surprise your opponent by Energy
Transing another Grass energy to
Sceptile-ex and then bam attach a Boost
and deal 100 damage. Next turn however,
Sceptile-ex is not allowed to use
Slashing Strike, unless of course it is
benched via Warp Point. And if you can
find room I would also highly consider
tech'ing in 1 Lizard Poison Sceptile
since it also goes with the theme of the
deck and can be highly abused with Boost
Energy.
Once
you get the combo up and running this
deck is very hard to beat. Of course
there are various weaknesses to this
deck like the obvious one Blaziken/Blaze-ex.
Also if you encounter another Grass
deck, Sceptile-ex is also weak to
Grass. Then there is your opponent's
use of ATM Rock to kill off the damaged
Slowpokes and Treeckos which is a very
bad thing. It all depends on your
area's metagame because this deck is
really really good against any Water
based deck such as Ludicargo or Wailord-ex
and it pretty much beats Gardevoir and
Dark T-Tar Sand Damage decks.
