Loretta's Pokemon Toy Blog
August 20, 2007

I have a small bit of news, as the new TCG expansion is poised to make its debut, Wal-mart finished resetting their shelves and lo, the larger Supercenters allocated a space for new Jakks Pokemon toys! I visited one larger Supercenter to grocery shop the weekend of the 11th. I found they had received the large Pokemon plush with sound, only Piplup and Turtwig on the shelf (at 2 stores). They also had a space for the mini plush, which surprised me as they did not stock it at any of the stores in my area when Jakks released the last few waves. I inquired about the mini plush and the clerk indicated she had not seen them. While all this was going on, some lady was loading up her cart with box after box of Wal-mart exclusive G I Joe anniversary repro. dolls. I about died! :O She merrily chatted on her cellphone about reselling them, setting off a Poke-panic in my brain about the mini plush. Had I missed my chance? After stowing groceries safely in my fridge, I went on a mega-shopping excursion. Over the course of the weekend, I visited 6 different Wal-marts (several repeat visits-!), 3 of which were larger Supercenters, 1 a smaller Supercenter and the other 2 just regular Wal-marts. ONLY the larger Supercenters had shelf space allocated to Pokemon. The store I had visited Saturday mysteriously had a picked through box of the plush Sunday morning. I had a really hard time getting the characters I wanted--and I can't afford to buy 'em all! ;) The hardest to find mini was Pachirisu--I bought the only one I saw on those wild trips! Next hardest to find were Buneary, Starly, Aipom and Croagunk, in about that order. Easiest of the bunch were Bonsly and Sudowoodo; I passed on those as the somewhat 2-D green "rocks" kind of fell flat on me, as I have a Japanese Banpresto Bonsly with nicely stuffed "rocks." ;) They were still pretty cute, tho', $5.99 ea. On my trans-urban voyage, I stopped by a TRU on the way home. TRU had gotten in the new wave of throw action Poke balls, Starly, Buneary, Croagunk, $9.99 ea. Target has yet to put out the new plush as of the 16th. TRU had the Battle Dome and Wal-Mart had a shelf space for it. Wal-Mart and Target did not have the Diamond & Pearl figures out as of the weekend of the 11th; however, TRU has had those since early July. One Target I visited had the new Poke balls, though; only Starly remained, whereas TRU had stocked the balls well. I think the hot items are the mini plush and the single D&P figures as those seem to be the hardest to find in most cases.

I can't help ending this with a personal comment, despite the "wasted" gas driving around, I still managed to make out better than if I had gone online to a price gouger. AND the Buneary was sooo worth it! It's ADORABLE! Ditto the Poke ball mini Buneary. It's so small but so well executed, the fabric is super soft. Having had real rabbits for the past 15 years or so, I really like how the face is designed with the charming little downturned mouth, just like a real bunny! :D

Bun Bun Buneary! ;D
